FUE technique and its advantages
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a method of obtaining hair directly from the donor area, without the need for a linear incision. In this hair restoration procedure, fine instruments are used to make a small incision in the skin around the upper part of the follicular unit, which is then extracted directly from the scalp.
Follicular Unit Extraction(FUE) is considered a different procedure from Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). In FUE, the follicular units are extracted directly from the scalp, rather than being microscopically dissected from a strip that has already been removed from the scalp as in FUT. In other words, the main difference between FUT and FUE is that in FUT, the follicular grafts are obtained by strip harvesting and dissection compared with direct extraction of each individual follicular unit in FUE.
Because FUE does not leave a linear scar, it is preferred for a lot of patients especially those who want to wear their hair very short. The procedure is also useful for those who have or may heal poorly from traditional strip harvesting (e.g. bad scarring).Furthermore, this technique is very convenient for those with a tight scalp. In some cases this technique is considered an important application to camouflage a widened linear donor scar from a prior hair transplant procedure.
